Malayalam actor and producer Vijay Babu, accused of raping his colleague, filed an early plea for bail at the Kerala High Court on Friday. Kerala police on Thursday issued a surveillance notice to the actor in a rape case. The court is likely to hear his guilty plea in the afternoon session.
In his petition, he said that the actress is trying to blackmail him. The actor said that he has all the evidence including the chat messages between him and the complainant to prove his innocence and that he too is ready to present it in court. Police suspect that Babu has fled the country and is currently in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
According to the police, Babu is on the run after Kozhikode’s colleague in Ernakulam filed a complaint. She was raped and beaten several times in a Kochi flat. The complaint was filed on April 22. Shortly after the news broke, Babu went live on his social media on Wednesday, stating that he was the “real victim” in the case, adding that he would take appropriate legal action against the whistleblower, whom he had named.
In addition to his complaint, the police have registered a second case against the actor for revealing the name of the complainant. He also accused the actor of intoxicating her before sexually abusing her. Speaking to the media, senior police officer CH Nagaraju said that they have launched an investigation against him and have also collected evidence.
