Sunrisers Hyderabad stunned Punjab Kings by chasing down 246 runs in 19 overs, the second-highest successful run chase in IPL history.
A Record-Breaking Innings
Abhishek Sharma smashed 141 off 55 balls, including 10 sixes and 14 fours, to lead the charge. He paired with Travis Head, who scored 66 off 37 balls, for a 171-run opening stand. Sharma’s century came off 40 balls, and he became the first SRH batter to score the most runs in an IPL innings, surpassing KL Rahul’s 132.
The chase got off to a blistering start, with Sharma reaching his half-century in 19 balls and Head in 32. Punjab’s first wicket came when Head was caught out by Yuzvendra Chahal in the 13th over. Despite losing Head, Sharma continued to pile on the runs.
Punjab’s Bowling Effort
Punjab’s bowlers struggled to contain SRH’s batters. Eight players bowled, but only Arshdeep Singh and Chahal completed their four overs. Arshdeep took one wicket for 37 runs, while Marco Jansen was the most expensive, conceding 39 runs in two overs. Yash Thakur and Glenn Maxwell also gave away 40 runs each.
Punjab’s Strong Start
Punjab Kings had set a massive target, thanks to Shreyas Iyer’s 82 off 36 balls, including six sixes and six fours. The team’s openers, Pranshu Arya and Simran Singh, got them off to a good start. Marcus Stoinis hit four sixes in the final over to seal the total.
SRH’s Bowlers Struggled
Mohammed Shami had a tough time, conceding 75 runs in four overs, the second-most expensive spell in IPL history. However, SRH’s top-order batters made his efforts count.
