Abhishek Bachchan Petitions Delhi HC for Personality Rights Against Deepfake Content

A new kind of courtroom drama is unfolding, but this time, it’s about protecting who you are online. Two major stars, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan, are taking on the Wild West of the internet. They’re fighting to keep their images and identities safe from unauthorized use, especially from sneaky AI-generated fakes.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was the first to make a move. She filed a petition in the Delhi High Court. She wants to stop websites and online platforms from using her name, pictures, and even artificial intelligence-created obscene content without her say-so. It’s a bold step in an age where digital manipulation is becoming scarily common.

Her husband, well-known actor Abhishek Bachchan, has now followed suit. He also approached the Delhi High Court. He’s seeking protection for his “publicity rights” and “personality rights,” which basically means control over how his identity is used publicly. According to news agency PTI, this makes a clear statement from the power couple.

Abhishek Bachchan’s petition, filed on Wednesday, asked the court to put an end to the misuse. He specifically wants websites and platforms to stop using his photos, fake videos, and obscene content created with AI. He also cited fake pictures that look like he signed them, all being used without his permission.

Justice Tejas Kariya heard Abhishek Bachchan’s case. The judge asked Abhishek’s lawyer to answer some questions. The hearing for this matter is scheduled for later the same day, at 2:30 PM. Advocate Pravin Anand, representing Abhishek Bachchan, pointed out that the people they are suing are making AI-generated videos of the actor. They are also creating fake signed pictures and explicit content. Advocates Amit Naik, Madhu Gadodia, and Dhruv Anand are also on Abhishek Bachchan’s legal team.

Just a day before, on Tuesday, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan presented her case. Justice Tejas Kariya hinted that he might issue a temporary order. This order would warn the groups misusing her identity. Aishwarya’s petition explains that many unknown parties are using her name, image, likeness, personality, and even her voice without her permission. They do this to make money. Her petition also claims these groups are using AI and deepfake technology. They are putting her face onto inappropriate videos and pictures. This damages her good name and public image.
