You know, some stories just stick with you. Like Ira Khan’s. She’s Aamir Khan’s daughter, yes, but more importantly, she’s a brave voice for mental health. This past Friday, October 10, on World Mental Health Day, she shared her journey once more. Her honest words remind us all why it’s so vital to open up.
Ira hasn’t shied away from her struggles. She has spoken out many times about the tough times she faced. She has battled mental health issues in the past. Her consistent advocacy makes a real difference.
Ira’s Candid Thoughts
“It wasn’t easy for me to talk about mental health,” Ira confessed. She admitted, “I felt scared of my own feelings. I just didn’t understand what was happening inside me.” Luckily, her family always discussed these things openly. There was never any shame attached to mental health talks at home.
But as Ira started to feel a bit better, she realized a bigger problem. She discovered the huge stigma society had around mental health. People often judge those who struggle. Then a real lightbulb moment happened for her. It came during rehearsals for one of her plays.
Her producer told her about the Oscar-winning music maestro, AR Rahman. He too had once spoken about his own problems. This bravely helped many people, her producer explained. “You can do that too,” her producer encouraged. That’s when it clicked for Ira. She realized she could help others too. She took her time, thought it all through, and then decided to speak openly about mental health.

Today, Ira is absolutely thriving. She is enjoying her married life and looks happier than ever. She tied the knot with fitness coach Nupur Shikhare. Their official marriage registration took place on January 3, 2024, in Mumbai. A beautiful Christian ceremony followed on January 10, 2024, in Udaipur. Many big Bollywood stars came to celebrate their special day.
