The iconic film “Andaz Apna Apna” is still widely regarded as one of Bollywood’s most beloved cult classics. Released in 1994, it continues to charm audiences with the incredible chemistry between Aamir Khan and Salman Khan. The movie also starred Raveena Tandon and Karishma Kapoor, but what’s lesser-known is that the two actresses were at odds with each other during filming. In a recent interview, Aamir Khan opened up about the challenges of making “Andaz Apna Apna” and the tensions between Raveena and Karishma.
With over 60 years in the film industry, Aamir shared with IndiaToday that making “Andaz Apna Apna” was an arduous task. He recounted that the time period when the film was made was particularly tough. The actor explained that the main reason for this was the animosity between the lead actresses. Whenever Karishma would arrive on set, Raveena would leave, making it extremely difficult to shoot scenes together. Despite these challenges, Aamir remained optimistic about the film’s potential.
On-Set Tensions: Raveena and Karishma’s Feud
Aamir reminisced, “We had a great time filming, but it was also a challenging period because I was the only actor who would show up on time. Whenever Karishma would arrive, Raveena would leave. It was a miracle that we managed to complete the film.” The tension between the two actresses was palpable, and Aamir often wondered how they would finish the project.
Aamir’s Concerns and the Film’s Eventual Success
Aamir continued, “I’m not sure if I should be sharing this, but… Raveena and Karishma were not on good terms. I would worry about how we would finish the film since they couldn’t shoot together. However, I had immense faith in the project. It was a quirky and crazy film, and Salman and I were at the peak of our careers. Although the film didn’t do well at the box office initially, I was taken aback because I thought it was an excellent movie. Now, I believe it’s the number one film for home entertainment. Every generation has watched it, and every generation wants to watch it.”
Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, “Andaz Apna Apna” also starred Shakti Kapoor and Paresh Rawal. Despite being a box office flop upon its release, the film has since become a cult classic, beloved by audiences of all ages. Aamir’s reflections on the film’s making offer a fascinating glimpse into the challenges and triumphs of creating a cinematic masterpiece that has stood the test of time.
