Aamir Khan Credits Mom for Sakshi Tanwar’s ‘Dangal’ Casting

Aamir Khan has revealed that his mother played a crucial role in the casting of actress Sakshi Tanwar for his acclaimed 2016 film, ‘Dangal’. Tanwar portrayed Daya Kaur, the wife of Khan’s character, Mahavir Singh Phogat.

Khan recently shared the details of Tanwar’s selection, attributing the initial inspiration entirely to his mother. He also lauded Tanwar’s performance in the blockbuster movie.

His mother was a devoted viewer of television serials and particularly admired Sakshi Tanwar’s acting. This consistent appreciation sparked the idea in Khan’s mind.

Khan described the decision to cast Tanwar as “my idea,” which came to him suddenly. He then approached director Nitesh Tiwari with the suggestion to consider her for the role.

He recounted being astonished by Tanwar’s performance during filming. Khan recalled expressing his surprise, stating, “You have done wonders! I had no expectations at all.”

Sakshi Tanwar herself admitted her disbelief when first offered the part. She found it difficult to imagine such a pairing with Aamir Khan.

The actress also disclosed that she had been declining numerous television show offers before ‘Dangal’. She later understood the reason behind her previous rejections.

Khan praised Tanwar’s acting prowess, calling her “amazing and a fantastic actress.”
