Skip Barber Formula iRacing Series Returns For 2026 With Massive $500K Prize Pool

The barrier between esports and professional motorsports just shattered again. As of Tuesday, iRacing and the Skip Barber Racing School officially resurrected the Skip Barber Formula iRacing Series for the 2026 season. The virtual championship boasts a combined prize pool valued at over $500,000. It is a massive financial commitment to sim racing. The stakes are physical. The grand prize is a fully funded seat in the 2027 real-world Skip Barber Formula Race Series.

The six-round championship directly mirrors the real-world Skip Barber schedule. Virtual drivers will hit the tarmac at Lime Rock Park, WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, VIRginia International Raceway, Sonoma Raceway, Richmond, and Circuit of The Americas. The 2026 season officially kicks off with Hot Lap qualifying on May 1 for Round 1 at Lime Rock Park. The championship finale hits Circuit of The Americas on July 16.

The entry format is brutal and fast. Each round opens with a Hot Lap Qualifier running from Friday through Sunday. The top 20 drivers from each weekly qualifier advance to the main championship broadcast race. Drivers can buy in on a per-event basis for $50 per week or lock down a Full Season Pass for $250. Every single participant is guaranteed a $200 Skip Barber Racing School credit. The top three drivers in the overall standings punch their ticket to the Skip Barber Formula Car Shootout at VIR. There, they will battle for the ultimate prize in actual race cars.

The stakes are intensely regulated, according to the official 2026 prize framework and entry eligibility requirements released by the organization.

How Ivan Machado Perez Proved The Sim-to-Reality Pipeline

The relationship between Skip Barber and iRacing dates back to the platform’s early days with the iconic “Skippy” Formula 2000 car. But this current series represents a paradigm shift in professional scouting. The viability of pulling gamers out of their bedrooms and putting them into high-speed race cars was entirely validated by last season’s grand prize winner, Ivan Machado Perez.

Perez dominated the virtual circuit. He won the iRacing series. He then seamlessly transitioned to physical race cars. Perez won 10 real-world races to clinch the physical Skip Barber Race Series championship. He advanced professionally to the USF Juniors circuit. His trajectory directly proved Skip Barber CMO Joe Monitto’s foundational claim: top sim racers possess the exact, translatable skills required to compete in elite real-world racing.
