Golf legend Tiger Woods was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence following a rollover crash in Florida on Friday afternoon. The 50-year-old was actively evaluating his physical capacity to play in the upcoming April Masters Tournament after undergoing his seventh back surgery, a lumbar disc replacement, in September 2025.
He escaped injury on Friday. Woods was driving a dark-colored Land Rover near 281 Beach Road on Jupiter Island shortly after 2:00 p.m. ET. He attempted to pass a pickup truck pulling a pressure-cleaning trailer on a narrow, two-lane road at a high rate of speed. He swerved to avoid a direct collision. The SUV clipped the back of the trailer. It rolled onto its driver’s side and slid up the roadway.
Neither Woods nor the truck driver suffered injuries. Woods crawled out through the passenger side door. Local authorities secured the scene immediately.
Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek addressed the near-miss directly. “Had there been someone moving in the opposite direction, we would not be having a conversation saying there was no injuries. This could’ve been a lot worse,” Budensiek said.
Responding officers noted Woods exhibited signs of impairment and appeared lethargic, according to a detailed report released by deputies. He took a breathalyzer test at the scene. He blew “triple zeroes” or 0.00. Authorities suspected he was under the influence of drugs or medication. Woods refused to submit to a subsequent urine test.
Police arrested Woods at the scene. He faced charges of driving under the influence, property damage, and refusal to submit to a lawful test. All three charges are misdemeanors. Florida state law mandates a minimum holding period for DUI arrests. Woods was held at the Martin County Jail for eight hours. He was released on bail late Friday night following the two-car rollover crash in Florida.

This is the third major vehicle collision of his career. Woods survived a high-speed rollover crash in Los Angeles in February 2021. That accident shattered his lower right leg and ankle. Medical staff considered amputation at the time. He also crashed his Cadillac Escalade into a fire hydrant and a tree outside his Orlando home in November 2009.
Friday’s incident is his second DUI arrest. Police found Woods asleep behind the wheel of a running, damaged car in a South Florida traffic lane in 2017. He pleaded guilty to reckless driving in that case. He stated he had an unexpected reaction to a combination of prescription painkillers.
