Melbourne’s most notorious gangland focal point is in ruins. A suspected arson attack gutted the Love Machine nightclub in Prahran early Wednesday morning. The devastating fire follows a sudden government crackdown earlier this year. The Victorian Liquor Commission forcibly ordered the venue’s closure after a severe escalation in organized crime and violent incidents tied to the site.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene at approximately 2:00 a.m. local time. Roughly 50 firefighters deployed specialized ladder platforms to contain the massive blaze. The physical destruction of the building marks a violent endpoint for a venue plagued by bloodshed.

The club carries a dark legacy. It became the center of national attention on April 14, 2019. Shooters Jacob Elliott and Allan Fares fired four rounds from a stolen Porsche Cayenne into a crowd standing outside the doors. The drive-by attack killed 37-year-old security guard Aaron Osmani and 28-year-old patron Richard Arow.
That shooting was a calculated revenge hit. Security had ejected Elliott’s half-brother from the premises earlier that night. Their father is a known underworld figure. Both shooters received life sentences for murder and attempted murder in 2022.
Violence continued to haunt the location. Another gun-related incident erupted outside the venue in August 2025. This unrelenting pattern of criminal activity forced state regulators to finally intervene. They stripped the venue of its operating rights. The ongoing turf wars expose how local syndicates connect to the broader world of organized crime.
Police have established a crime scene around the charred remains in Prahran. Investigators are currently treating the Wednesday morning fire as a targeted attack.
