False Russell Brand Death Rumor Sparked by Misinterpreted Charlie Kirk Tribute

A viral rumor claiming that British actor and comedian Russell Brand had died circulated across social media platforms late Tuesday and Wednesday. Multiple news organizations have verified that the claim is false and that Brand is alive with no reported medical emergencies.

The confusion originated on X, formerly Twitter, following a post by podcaster and former FBI co-deputy director Dan Bongino. At 4:33 p.m. local time on March 10, 2026, Bongino posted a tribute intended for the late political activist Charlie Kirk. The post included an image featuring Bongino, Kirk, and Brand seated together.

“There won’t be another. One of the saddest days of my life. He was just different. And everyone who knew him, knew it. May God rest your soul,” Bongino wrote in the caption.

The text of the post did not explicitly name Kirk. At 7:41 p.m., an X user named Jackson Clarke retweeted Bongino’s post and added, “I can’t believe this is how I found out Russell Brand is dead.”

The retweet rapidly gained traction, leading other users to question Brand’s status. Verified reports from USA Today confirmed that the tribute was directed solely at Kirk and that the claims regarding Brand were entirely inaccurate.

Brand continues to be a subject of public focus within the entertainment industry due to his ongoing legal proceedings. On February 24, 2026, Brand appeared at Southwark Crown Court in London, where he pleaded not guilty to two new charges of rape and sexual assault. The Crown Prosecution Service stated the alleged incidents occurred in 2009.

Brand had previously pleaded not guilty to two counts of rape, one count of indecent assault, and two counts of sexual assault regarding alleged incidents between 1999 and 2005. A trial for the initial five charges is scheduled to begin later in 2026.
