Montijo Restaurant Shooting Leaves Two Men Dead

Two men died Sunday after being shot at a restaurant in Montijo, Portugal, authorities confirmed, triggering an investigation into a suspect believed to have a work relationship with the victims.

The deaths were announced by the National Republican Guard (GNR), which stated the victims were transported to Barreiro hospital but succumbed to their injuries inside the medical facility.

“The two victims were transported to Barreiro hospital and it was inside the hospital unit that their deaths were declared,” a GNR source confirmed.

Authorities are still in the process of formally identifying the victims and determining their precise ages. Initial reports suggested the two men were family members.

The alleged shooter is a man, who is believed to have a professional connection with the victims, according to police sources.

Investigators are actively working to ascertain whether the suspect acted alone or if additional individuals were involved in the incident.

Emergency services were alerted to the shooting around 7:55 PM local time (18:55 UTC) on Sunday.

The victims were found in cardiorespiratory arrest and were receiving advanced life support at the scene.

They were transported to Barreiro Hospital around 8:45 PM local time (19:45 UTC) with support from emergency medical and resuscitation vehicles (VMER) belonging to the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM).

The Polícia Judiciária (Judiciary Police) of Setúbal has taken over the investigation into the fatal shooting.

A source from the Polícia Judiciária emphasized the importance of determining “if there are victims, how many there are and if there is one or more suspects.”

A total of 23 emergency personnel and eight vehicles, including units from firefighters, GNR, and INEM, were dispatched to the restaurant in Montijo, a town in Portugal’s Setúbal district.
