German football club VfL Wolfsburg is reportedly considering Austria’s national team coach Ralf Rangnick for its sporting director role, a move that could reshape the club’s leadership amidst reported instability.
The German Bundesliga club’s current sporting director, Peter Christiansen, faces an uncertain future. His position is not guaranteed, according to German newspaper BILD, which cited recent instability within the club.
Rangnick, 67, is currently focused on leading the Austrian national team through their qualification campaign for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His name has emerged as a potential successor to Christiansen.
Austria’s prospects for qualifying for the 2026 tournament are considered strong. Rangnick is widely expected to remain as the national team’s coach until at least next summer.
