Olympic champion Winfred Yavi of Bahrain won the Cross Internacional de Itálica on Sunday, as Portuguese runners Mariana Machado and Ana Marinho achieved top-20 finishes among a strong international field.
Yavi, who secured an Olympic title in the 3,000 meters hurdles at the Paris 2024 Games, finished the race in Seville with a dominant time of 28 minutes, 58 seconds.
Mariana Machado placed seventh overall, completing her run in 31 minutes, 30 seconds. She was the third best European competitor in the event.
Spanish athletes María Forero and Isabel Barreriro were the only Europeans to finish ahead of Machado, securing fifth and sixth positions respectively.
Fellow Portuguese athlete Ana Marinho finished 18th in the competition. Her performance concluded with a time of 33 minutes, 01 second.
Daisy Jepkemei of Kazakhstan secured second place, finishing in 29 minutes, 36 seconds.
Likina Amebaw of Ethiopia finished just behind the top two, closely trailing Jepkemei by a single second.
