Actor Akshay Kumar has approached the Bombay High Court, seeking protection of his personality rights. The court has reserved its decision on his petition.
Kumar filed the plea against various websites and social media platforms for unauthorized use of his photographs, videos, and name. Justice Arif presided over the hearing.
The Bollywood star’s petition specifically addresses the rising prevalence of deepfake videos. He argues that such unauthorized content not only damages his reputation but also carries serious implications.
His legal team contends that his name, voice, gestures, and other identity-related elements are being infringed upon. The petition seeks to halt these violations.
This misuse includes AI-generated deepfake photos and videos, along with fake merchandise, misleading advertisements, and false brand endorsements. These activities are occurring across platforms like YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and various e-commerce websites.
The petition highlights that such actions severely harm Kumar’s credibility and standing. It also undermines his personality and publicity rights, while actively misleading the public.
Earlier, singer Asha Bhosle and actor Sunil Shetty filed similar petitions seeking to protect their personality rights. The court had previously passed interim orders in their respective cases.
