Oliveirense Confirms Douglas Borel Loan for Portuguese Second League

The whispers around UD Oliveirense have now become clear. The club just announced the arrival of Douglas Borel, a Brazilian right-back. This is a move our team at Record had already anticipated. For the 23-year-old, this marks his first professional adventure outside Brazil, a big step in his young career.

Borel only recently landed in Portugal. He joined Santa Clara on a permanent transfer just this month. But before even stepping onto the field for them, a new path opened. He’s now heading to UD Oliveirense, where he will play in the 2nd League. This kind of immediate loan often happens for young players getting used to a new country and a different style of football.

Douglas Borel comes from Camaçari, a city in the Bahia state of Brazil. He grew up and turned pro through the ranks of Bahia’s football academy. At his home club, he was always seen as a real prospect, a “jewel” in the making. In 2022, he even started 34 games, showing flashes of his talent. However, his performance wasn’t always steady. By the end of that season, he found himself as the third choice for his position.

That led to a series of loan moves within Brazil. He spent time at Chapecoense, then at Portuguesa, and later at Goiás. All these moves were temporary stints away from Bahia. His journey with Bahia finally ended earlier this July, when he was sold outright to Santa Clara. Now, a new chapter begins, with the black and white stripes of Oliveirense.
