The Indian Premier League’s 18th season is set to begin on March 22, giving all 10 franchises about a month to finalize their preparations. In this regard, Royal Challengers Bangalore announced their new captain for the upcoming season on February 13, handing over the responsibility to Rajat Patidar. Some teams have decided to retain the players who captained them in the previous season. So far, the names of captains for 8 teams have been finalized for the IPL 2025 season, while 2 teams are yet to announce their new captains.
Who will lead the defending champions KKR
The teams whose captains have been decided so far include Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Gujarat Titans, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings, Lucknow Super Giants, and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Now, all fans are waiting for the announcement of the captains of defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals. KKR did not retain Shreyas Iyer, who led them to the title in the previous season, in the mega auction. Iyer is now a part of Punjab Kings, so KKR will have to announce a new captain for IPL 2025. Two players, Venkatesh Iyer and Ajinkya Rahane, are currently leading the race for KKR’s captaincy.
Delhi Capitals’ captaincy decision pending
The situation regarding Delhi Capitals’ captain for the IPL 2025 season is not yet clear. The franchise has not announced the name of the captain for the upcoming season. KL Rahul and Axar Patel are in the running to lead Delhi Capitals, with Rahul joining the team in the mega auction and Axar being an integral part of the team for several seasons.
