New Face in West Indies Squad for Pakistan Test Series

West Indies Announces Test Squad for Pakistan Tour

The West Indies cricket team has announced its squad for the upcoming two-Test series against Pakistan. The team features a mix of young and experienced players, with Craig Brathwaite as the captain. Notably, star spinner Gudakesh Moti has returned to the team after missing the two Test matches against Bangladesh due to his participation in the Global Super League.

New Face in the Team

Aamir Jangu, a wicketkeeper-batsman, has been included in the Test team for the first time. He has consistently performed well in domestic cricket, impressing everyone with his skills. In the four-day domestic tournament, he scored 500 runs in five matches at an average of 63.50, including two centuries and one half-century, making him Trinidad and Tobago’s leading run-scorer. Jangu recently made his ODI debut against Bangladesh and led the team to victory with a brilliant century in his first match. He is likely to make his Test debut in the upcoming series.

Injury Concerns

Star fast bowler Shamar Joseph has been ruled out of the Test series due to a calf injury. He also missed the ODI series against Bangladesh due to the same reason. Alzarri Joseph has not been selected in the Test squad, which will be a significant loss for the West Indies team.

Coach’s Comments

West Indies head coach Andre Colli praised Gudakesh Moti’s return, stating that he will strengthen the spin department. Colli also commended Aamir Jangu’s performance in domestic cricket, saying that he has proven himself in all formats. The coach emphasized the team’s focus on building on their past performances and translating their learnings into results in the upcoming Test series against Pakistan in January 2025.
