The United States will send a new batch of $450 million in military aid to Ukraine, including more rocket systems to use against invading Russian forces, the White House announced Thursday.
"This pack contains weapons and equipment, including new High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems"White House spokesman John Kirby said. Also included in the shipment are tens of thousands of rounds of artillery and patrol boat ammunition.
Rocket systems known as HIMARS top Ukraine’s wish list as it battles Russian forces advancing from the east with a significant advantage in heavy artillery.
Four initial units of that rocket system have already been delivered, kicking off the training program required for Ukrainian soldiers to operate this sophisticated, high-precision weaponry.
With the latest shipments, US assistance to Ukraine’s armed forces so far amounts to 6.1 billion dollars, Kirby stressed.
