Jose Abreu homered twice and Luis Robert drove in the go-ahead run in the fifth inning to help the Chicago White Sox beat the Detroit Tigers 9-5 on Monday night.
Abreu hit a pan shot over the left-center fence to give the White Sox a 2-0 lead in the first inning. He added a ninth-inning home run to center field to extend Chicago’s lead to four.
White Sox right-hander Lance Lynn made his first appearance of the season after right knee surgery, allowing three runs on 10 hits in 4 1/3 innings. Lynn had a heated exchange with Chicago third base coach Joe McEwing in the second inning.
Bennett Sousa (3-0) got the victory after working an inning and a third without score.
Rony Garcia (0-2) allowed four runs on five hits with two walks in just over four innings.
