Google Gmail will change, and this will be the look that awaits you

Increasingly, Google wants to make Gmail the base of everything you need to do your school or professional tasks. And that will lead to a new change already during this month of February.

Gmail’s new design will combine Chat, Spaces, and Meet on the left side of your home page, next to your email. These will be available in a menu that will allow you to switch between all of them without having to leave the same browser window.

This menu will replace the sidebars that currently direct you to these services. As for the overall look and feel of the platform, it’s increasingly in line with Material You, which Google debuted in Android 12.

The new look of Gmail arrives optionally from February 8

As you can see in the image shared by Google itself, there will be notification bubbles that will tell you if it is necessary to change platforms. In addition, Google promises to launch a unified search in conversations and emails in the coming months.

According to Google, users can choose to try this new experience starting on February 8. If you don’t like it, you can switch back to classic Gmail at an early stage through settings.

Starting in April 2022, users who haven’t opted into this new design will start seeing it by default. However, they will still be able to go back to the classic model through settings.

The new design will be mandatory from the end of June

At the end of the second quarter of the year, this becomes the default experience in Gmail. And then there is no option to go back to classic Gmail. Google promises to share more information about how soon these changes will happen.
