The passage of Hurricane Fiona had a negative impact on different sectors of the country and, as reported by the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, the tourism sector suffered with the loss of more than 40,000 foreigners who stopped entering the country.

“We can estimate some 40,000 to 45,000 foreigners who stopped arriving in the Dominican Republic product of Hurricane Fiona and the suspension of flights,” said Collado.

However, the minister asserted that the temporary stoppage of functions and the fury with which the rains and winds hit the East, one of the strongest regions of Dominican tourism, will not prevent this month of September from ending as the best in history. of national tourism.

“Tourism in the Dominican Republic remains strong, solid and growing and it is that the month of September will end as the best month of September in the history of tourism in the Dominican Republic”, he said.

In addition to this, Collado stated that last weekend 50,000 foreigners entered the country “returning to normality in the first days of September and recovering the projection.”

By his words, the Ministry of Tourism intends that, if nothing out of the ordinary happens, the current month ends with more than 400,000 foreigners who arrived on the middle island.

Today, the institution celebrated a Eucharist at the First Cathedral of America and delivered a flower arrangement at the altar of the country, embracing future tourism projects and giving thanks for all the merits achieved during these two years in celebrating the World Tourism Day.
