The 2025 Emmy Awards brought together many famous faces for a night of celebration. But some big names, even nominees, missed out on the glitzy event. Their absence from the red carpet and the ceremony certainly sparked conversation among fans and industry watchers.
Fans of Hulu’s hit show The Bear noticed a big absence from its lead star. Jeremy Allen White, nominated for Best Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, did not walk the Emmy red carpet. This was his first time skipping the event since The Bear first premiered in June 2022. It was also the first year he didn’t take home the lead actor award. That honor went to Seth Rogen for his role as Matt Remick in The Studio. White’s co-star, Ayo Edebiri, also had a nomination this year. She too skipped the big ceremony. However, fans still saw other The Bear favorites like Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Abby Elliott celebrating the night.
Another expected presenter caused a stir by not showing up. Eric Dane was set for his first major Emmy moment. He had announced his ALS diagnosis in April, so his appearance was much anticipated. He was supposed to present with his old Grey’s Anatomy co-star, Jesse Williams. But when it was time for their segment, Williams walked onto the stage alone. The reason for Dane’s no-show remains a mystery. News channel Us Weekly reached out to his team for answers. Before the show, Williams spoke to Entertainment Tonight about their friendship. "It’s truly wonderful," Williams said. "I really loved working with him, in particular." He added that Grey’s Anatomy continues to have a huge emotional and smart impact worldwide.
Why Were They Missing?
So, what kept these stars away from one of television’s biggest nights?
For Jeremy Allen White, the reason was quite personal. Variety reported that White missed the Emmys to attend his best friend’s wedding. Meanwhile, Ayo Edebiri’s absence was due to a "scheduling conflict," as E! News reported. She is currently busy filming a project all the way in Japan.
The Emmys almost had Sofía Vergara on stage as well. The former Modern Family star was slated to present an award. However, a last-minute emergency trip to the ER forced her to cancel. Vergara later shared the dramatic news on Instagram. "I didn’t go to the Emmys, but I did go to the emergency room," she wrote. "Sorry for canceling! The craziest eye allergy right before getting in the car!" This personal update definitely caught everyone’s attention.
Bella Ramsey, the breakout star from HBO’s *The Last of Us*, was another noticeable no-show. Ramsey was nominated for Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series for playing Ellie. Her reason for missing the ceremony remains unknown. Ultimately, Britt Lower from *Severance* took home the award in that category.
Even Queen Bey made the list of absent stars. Beyoncé was up for Best Variety Special (Live). This was for her dazzling performance at the NFL’s Beyoncé Bowl. That special aired on Netflix in December 2024 on Christmas Day. She earned some nods during the Emmy night. However, she didn’t show up in the audience. Beyoncé ultimately lost her category to *SNL50: The Anniversary Special*.
