Zwift launches the map of Scotland on the occasion of the Esports Cycling World Cups

The world of virtual cycling is already preparing for the celebration of the next Esports Cycling World Cup that will be held on February 18 and, on the occasion of this event, the platform Zwift has announced this Tuesday the launch of its new virtual cycling world: Scotland.

A world in which Zwift has been inspired by the city of Glasgow and the Scottish moors and which will consist of five new routes with a full Scottish setting and specifically designed for the Virtual Cycling World Championships. In fact, three of the five new routes will be used in the tests of the new format of the Esports Cycling World Championship to crown the new rainbow jerseys in the men’s and women’s categories.

The inspiration of Scotland and Glasgow is also due to the fact that the city will host one of the biggest events in the history of cycling: the Glasgow 2023 Cycling World Championships, which it will host from August 3 to 13. world championships of up to 13 disciplines such as Road, Track, Para-cycling, Mountain Bike and BMX among others, making Glasgow the world capital of cycling.

The five courses that will introduce a total of 58.8 new kilometers for Zwift users are as follows:

– The Highlands: This circuit of 14.1 kilometers and 105 meters of altitude is full of ups and downs, in an ideal section to train bursts of power on the ascents. This route will be the setting for ‘The Punch’, the first event of the Virtual Cycling World Championships, which will screen the 100 participants in the male and female categories to select the 30 riders who will advance to the next phase.

– The city and the Sgurr: The word ‘Sgurr’, which means ‘rocky peak’ in Scottish Gaelic, gives an idea of ​​what this 8.6-kilometre, 161-metre climb is like. This is the new Zwift colinz, designed to carry out repetition exercises or demanding tests. The city and the Sgurr will host the second round of the Virtual Cycling World Championships, ‘The Climb’, which will determine who will be the 10 cyclists who will advance to the final round, ‘The Podium’ in both categories.

– Glasgow Crit Circuit: This circuit of 3 kilometers and 33 meters of ascent is set in the heart of Glasgow showing the architecture of the city in a route with steep slopes and narrow roads.

-Loch Loop: The new world of Scotland will also offer an opportunity to rollers with a route of 8 kilometers and 71 meters of almost flat elevation, which will allow users to train their skills in time trials.

-Muckle Yin: The world’s largest course in Scotland will have 25.1 kilometers and 251 meters of elevation gain. A route that will start in the center of Glasgow and that will take cyclists to the Scottish cliffs and also through the lochs and the most spectacular places in Scotland.

These Scotland tours will initially only be available on Zwift at events and races such as Stage 8 of the Tour de Zwift from February 3-12, the Ride Scotland and Race Scotland events scheduled from February 6-March 7, and the ZRacing series of the month of February, which will be held on the map of Scotland. Starting in March, the new routes will be available for free races, club events and meetings.
