His body rested peacefully in a glass coffin. It was draped in a traditional Assamese ‘gamcha’. Fans respectfully placed flowers and more ‘gamchas’ as their final tributes. Many pulled out their phones, wanting to capture this deeply emotional moment.
The sun beat down hard, but it couldn’t stop the flow of people. Even under the scorching heat and humidity, their spirits didn’t waver. Many fans stayed outside the stadium even after paying their respects. They spontaneously sang his most cherished songs together. The relentless heat caused some people to feel unwell. Doctors on site provided immediate medical care to those who needed it.
Zubeen Garg was truly more than a singer; he was a phenomenon. You could see his massive popularity everywhere. A long 25-kilometer route from the airport to his home was packed solid with thousands. They came to bid him a final farewell, a silent parade of admiration. Everyone fondly knew him as “Zubeen Da.” This affectionate name spread far and wide across the entire Northeast.
Many famous personalities joined the public in mourning their loss. Singer Papon, among other well-known figures, came to the stadium. They shared their sorrow and honored the beloved artist. Zubeen’s wife, Garima, expressed her deep thanks. She was incredibly moved by the overwhelming love and blessings from everyone.
The state’s leadership also stepped in to ensure a dignified send-off. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma personally visited the cremation site on Sunday night. The final rites for Zubeen Garg will happen on Tuesday. This will take place in Kamarkuchi village, about 7-8 kilometers from Khanapara, Guwahati. The Chief Minister confirmed that all necessary steps are being taken. They want to maintain the site’s sanctity during this solemn event.
The Assam cabinet listened carefully to Zubeen Garg’s family. They decided Kamarkuchi would be the chosen place for his final rest. The state government plans to build a memorial, a ‘Samadhi’, at that very spot. This will be a lasting tribute to his incredible memory.

Zubeen Garg was only 52 years old when he passed away. His death happened on Friday while he was swimming in the sea in Singapore. His body arrived back in Guwahati early Sunday morning. It was first taken to his residence for private viewing. Then, it was respectfully moved to the stadium for the public to pay their final respects.
