Zubeen Garg Death Probe: Manager, Organizer Arrested, 14-Day Custody

The entertainment world is buzzing with a significant development in the investigation of Assamese singer Zubeen Garg’s unexpected passing. Fans were left shocked and saddened by his death, and the police have been working hard to find answers. Now, two key individuals have been taken into custody.

Assam Police made arrests Wednesday morning that mark a major turn in the case. Siddharth Sarma, who managed the singer, and Shyamkanu Mahanta, the main organizer of the North East India Festival in Singapore, were both arrested. Their arrests followed extensive questioning by police about Zubeen Garg’s death.

Both men were picked up far from Assam. Shyamkanu Mahanta was arrested right after he landed at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. Meanwhile, Siddharth Sarma was found and taken into custody at an apartment in Gurugram. A senior police officer confirmed to PTI that both were flown to Guwahati Wednesday morning. They are now in police custody for 14 days, as ordered by the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Kamrup (Meto) district. This allows for further investigation.

The Assam government launched a thorough inquiry soon after Zubeen Garg’s death. They formed a special 10-member Special Investigation Team (SIT). This team, led by DGP MP Gupta, has been looking into all the details. The SIT had previously sent notices to many people for their statements. This included Mahanta, Sarma, members of the Singapore Assam Association, and others who had traveled to Singapore for the festival.

Zubeen Garg passed away on September 19. His funeral, held with full state honors, took place on September 23 in Kamarkuchi village. The initial post-mortem report stated that the singer drowned. This tragic incident happened while he was swimming during a yacht party in Singapore.
