Zidane: another ‘no’ to PSG

PSG, rather Qatar, is still obsessed with signing Zinedine Zidane as coach. In October 2021, the Doha leaders tried to persuade him in the middle of the season so that Pochettino, at that time very close to Manchester United, could make his exit from the French capital. The response from the Marseillais was resounding: his dream was to lead the French team after the World Cup in Qatar.

Before the World Cup, in May 2022, Qatar’s dream was one step away from becoming a reality. PSG accelerated the negotiations to sign Zidane and there were even French media that closed the deal. From the rumors to the agreement there was a sidereal distance. Zizou again declined the offer and the club opted to sign Galtier weeks after making Luis Campos official as the new sports advisor.

Zidane’s track, which has never been as close as it has been said in France, was activated again several weeks ago. According to information from Le Parisien, PSG contacted the former Real Madrid coach to be Galtier’s successor. The answer was identical: no resounding. The legend of the French team is not, for the moment, interested in the bench of the new Ligue 1 champion and his dream, although it was cut short in January, continues to be that of directing Les Bleus.

Zidane will not be PSG coach, at least for the next few years. In addition to France, the Juventus bench, in which Allegri has been confirmed next season, is another of the options that the Marseillais is considering for the future. In Paris, meanwhile, they have sought alternatives. Nagelsmann is the favorite to succeed Galtier, but the deal is nowhere near happening. Qatar-backed Luis Enrique and Xabi Alonso are part of a wide range of managers to take over at PSG from July.
