Zaragoza Goalkeeper Instability Persists Amid Season Struggles

Miguel Ángel Ramírez certainly shook things up on the last day, making a slew of changes to his lineup – one of which raised a few eyebrows: the switch in goal. Gaetan Poussin had been struggling in recent matches, but Joan Femaleia hadn’t exactly covered himself in glory in his three previous starts either, when Víctor Fernández was at the helm.

The Canarian coach decided to take a chance on the Balearic goalkeeper, hoping to mix things up and alter the dynamics of the results. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite pay off. Femaleia had a relatively quiet game, with no notable interventions, and the only dangerous shot he faced ended up finding the back of the net – a goal that was unstoppable, even for a seasoned keeper like the former Oviedo player.

Ramírez explained his reasoning behind the decision in the press room, saying, “I’ve been considering this change for weeks. Femaleia was training well and knocking on the door of the starting lineup. Everyone can compete at any time and contribute to the team,” he remarked after the match against Burgos.

Missing Cristian Álvarez

The truth is, this latest change in goal gives off a sense of instability. Without Cristian Álvarez, the Zaragoza team lacks a dependable goalkeeper, but they have no choice but to make do with what they have for the remainder of the season. The Argentine’s absence has left a significant void, and it’s an area that needs to be addressed in the summer – part of a larger overhaul of the squad, if you will.
