The Pakistan Cricket Board is about to change once more ahead of the ODI World Cup. In July, Zaka replaced Ashraf Najam Sethi as PCB chairman, but now there is a possibility that Ashraf will be ousted. This will pave the way to become the new chief of the Pakistan Cricket Board.
Ashraf can resign from the post of Chairman
According to Cricbuzz’s report, this change is possible given recent political developments in Pakistan. The government led by Shehbaz Sharif has resigned. The forthcoming elections could be held soon and an interim government is currently in office in Pakistan. The report goes on to say that Pakistan’s Electoral Commission has communicated with the government to demand the removal of all political offices in order to hold free and fair elections. Zaka Ashraf was appointed by Shehbaz Sharif in July. In such a situation, he may have to vacate his post now. Now Najam Sethi can take his place again as the chair of the PCB chairman.
was appointed in July
The post of Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board has always been a political appointment. In Pakistan, the Prime Minister is the guardian of the cricket board and it is he who makes the decisions. Zaka Ashraf’s appointment came amid much controversy, after the Pakistan People’s Party insisted on giving their nominee the role of PCB chief as they held the Ministry of Sport. After that, Ashraf took over the command instead of Najam Sethi.
