YouTube is adding a volume normalizer for your ears’ sake

Audio normalizers are not something new. Many popular music streaming services can limit any sudden increase in volume.

Now it looks like YouTube joins the list with your own solution to give your videos a more consistent volume.

With the addition of this new tool called Stable Volume, unexpected volume changes are expected to be a thing of the past.

Tapping the options icon while watching something in the YouTube app brings up a list of controls such as video quality and subtitles. Some users saw the new stable volume option on that list.

Although there is no official information about what exactly it does, it can be deduced that it normalizes the audio output of the video.

When turned on, the Volume Steady feature should balance the sound output of the YouTube videos you are watching. Sudden volume changes are especially annoying when you have headphones on.

For now, stable volume appears to have very limited availability, which should improve over the next few days unless it’s a limited YouTube test.
