Youth Derby Draw: Benfica 1-1 Sporting, Lions Remain Atop League

Sporting’s under-15 football team secured a 1-1 draw against Lisbon rival Benfica, successfully maintaining a five-point lead at the top of the league table.

The hard-fought derby, played in Seixal, saw a balanced contest with opportunities for both sides. Sporting, however, demonstrated greater offensive power throughout the game.

The result ensures Sporting remains isolated in first place, solidifying its position over its closest competitor in the youth league standings.

Benfica initially took the lead in the ninth minute. Jesus Aquino broke away on the right flank, isolating himself before scoring past Sporting’s goalkeeper.

Sporting quickly responded with Capendja Silva having a strong chance that was saved by Benfica’s Lourenço Luís.

Silva, however, equalized shortly after. He dribbled past multiple defenders from the left wing before firing a shot beyond the Benfica keeper’s reach.

The second half saw both teams make multiple substitutions. Benfica introduced four new players, while Sporting made two changes.

Despite the fresh legs, neither side could break the deadlock. The score remained 1-1 until the final whistle.
