Yoko Taro, the game’s director, shed light on the reasoning behind this decision in a recent interview
commemorating the NieR series’ 15th anniversary. He revealed that the idea stemmed from a request by
Square Enix to include more content in the game. “The idea for multiple endings originated from Drakengard,
and we did it because Square Enix told us to add more content,” Taro explained.
