Yepez and Goldschmidt lead rout from St. Louis to Miami

Juan Yepez hit his first game with at least two home runs in the major leagues and Adam Wainwright pitched seven scoreless innings to help the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Miami Marlins 9-0 on Monday.

Yepez’s five RBIs tied for the most by a Cardinals player this season, and Paul Goldschmidt went 4-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs.

Wainwright (6-5) allowed seven hits in his first five innings but escaped trouble with the help of nine strikeouts. He took out the last seven enemies he faced.

The Cardinals beat the Marlins for the sixth time in their last seven meetings at Busch Stadium. Miami has lost three of its last four meetings.

Yepez’s three-run shot in the fourth inning put the Cardinals ahead 4-0 after Goldschmidt opened the scoring with his solo homer in the first.

Marlins starter Pablo Lopez (5-4) gave up five runs in as many innings. It was the second time in his 15 starts this season that he has allowed more than one home run.

For the Cardinals, Venezuelan Juan Yepez 4-2 with five produced and two runs scored. Panamanian Iván Herrera 3-0.

For the Marlins, the Venezuelans Avisaíl García 4-1; Miguel Rojas 3-1. The Dominicans Jesús Sánchez 4-0; Bryan de la Cruz 3-0; Erik Gonzalez 1-0. Cuban Jorge Soler 4-0.
