The first ODI match between India and England was held in Nagpur, with Team India emerging as the winner by 4 wickets. England had a strong start, with Phil Salt and Ben Docket scoring 75 runs together at a rapid pace. However, Salt was run out in the ninth over, and in the very next over, Yashaswi Jaiswal made a significant contribution by catching Ben Docket out for 32 runs. Jaiswal’s impressive catch, which involved him running backwards, has garnered widespread praise.
After India’s win, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video clip showing the Indian team players having fun. In the clip, Akshar Patel can be seen praising Jaiswal’s catch. When asked about the catch, Patel said, “I was standing in a position where I could see Jaiswal’s reaction to the catch. When he started sprinting, I thought he might lose focus.” Patel described the catch as a remarkable one, where Jaiswal stretched his entire body to catch the ball. In the video, Patel can also be heard teasing Jaiswal, saying, “Hey Sharma, why do you have to stretch so much to catch the ball? There’s no problem with that, brother. It was a very good catch.”

The Indian cricket team’s fielding coach, T Dilip, also praised Jaiswal’s catch, saying, “I thought Jaiswal was running, but the ball was also moving forward. I was saying, ‘Please hold on to it, this wicket is very important.’ I like the fact that Jaiswal’s hands are good, and he was able to reach the ball and catch it comfortably.”
