Xiaomi is already preparing the launch of its next folding smartphone that will hit the market in the second half of this year.
The foldable has undergone significant improvements and will come with a huge eight-inch screen to directly compete with Apple’s iPad mini.
Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 with eight-inch screen is close to Apple’s iPad mini
Apparently, Xiaomi’s new foldable smartphone will hit the market in the second half of this year. And Xiaomi has not held back with this model that has undergone major updates.
From the outset, starting with the internal screen that will have eight inches. These dimensions bring Xiaomi’s smartphone closer to Apple’s iPad mini tablet, which has an 8.3-inch screen, which is only slightly larger.
This will then be part of the strategy of the Chinese brand that wants its new foldable to compete directly with Apple’s mini tablet.
Few are the known specifications of the MIX Fold 2, but it is already known that its internal screen will be 6.5 inches, a dimension greater than that registered by some models already available on the market.
On the other hand, the Chinese brand will also have provided a high refresh rate of 120 Hz to the screens of both terminals, which is a significant improvement over the previous model that registers only 60 Hz.
The new foldable is also expected to arrive equipped with the brand’s proprietary Surge C1 image processing chip. This gives you a good argument on the optical side, as this chip has 100% improved signal processing efficiency.
MIX Fold 2 and Xiaomi 12 Ultra in dual launch?
As we have already mentioned, during the second half of the year, Xiaomi will launch its next folding smartphone on the market. Previous rumors have advanced that the new MIX Fold 2 will arrive equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus processor, similar to another brand terminal, the Xiaomi 12 Ultra.
Both one launch and the other can only happen after Qualcomm announces its improved version of the premium chip, which, for now, is scheduled for May 20. After that date, the “race” between smartphone manufacturers should begin to see who is the first to launch a terminal with this chip on the market.
The race, it seems, is disputed by two brands, Xiaomi and Motorola, as happened with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip – Motorola having presented its Edge 30 for the first time on the market. But now Xiaomi can win this dispute.
The great doubt of the analysts is whether the Chinese brand will simultaneously present two high-end models, equipped with the new Qualcomm chip. According to the rumors spread to date, both the MIX Fold 2 and the Xiaomi 12 Ultra are ready to be launched.
However, Xiaomi is unlikely to release two such relevant premium smartphones at the same time. Especially since, in this type of strategy, both models can lose visibility in the market. But, on the other hand, if the Chinese brand “delays” one of the models, it will be overtaken by the competition, which will launch its own terminals with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus in that space of time.
We will have to wait for Qualcomm’s announcement to reveal more details of Xiaomi’s strategy and understand how the brand can give the same visibility and preponderance in the market to the two new top smartphones.
