Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 versus Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4: which will be the folding champion?

Xiaomi and Samsung presented, during the past week, their new folding smartphones MIX Fold 2 and Galaxy Z Fold 4.

But which of the two will claim the title of best foldable smartphone? Here’s a rundown of the specs for both so you can decide who’s the folding champion.

dimensions

Both the Xiaomi and Samsung models have the same book-like design, which when opened allows access to a huge main screen.

In terms of dimensions, the closed Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 measures 161.1×73.9×11.2 mm and open 161.1×144.7×15.4 mm, weighing 262 grams.

In turn, the new Samsung folding registers 155.1×130.1×6.3 mm in open mode, while closed it has 155.1x 67.1×14.2-15.8 mm, in addition to a weight of 263 grams.

Analysis done, they have practically the same weight (one gram makes no difference in comfort of use), but the Xiaomi with a little more than 11 mm thick, is thinner and longer than its rival.

In these three specific points, the two folding are exactly the same. Both are equipped with the processor. Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 paired with 12 GB of RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 3.1 storage capacity.

With these specifications, in theory both have the same speed and fluidity of navigation, but of course the rest of the technology integrated in the terminals for each of the brands can make a difference.

screens

As for the screens, the Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 has an OLED LTPO 2.0 as its main panel with 8.02 inches, Quad-HD+ resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and up to 1200 nits of peak brightness. As a secondary screen, it has a 6.56-inch AMOLED panel with a resolution of 2520×1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. Both integrate HDR10 + and Dolby Vision support, and curiously, both screens were produced by Samsung.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 has an AMOLED main screen of 7.6 inches with a resolution of 2176×1812 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz, in addition to compatibility with HDR10 + and up to 1200 nits of maximum brightness. The secondary 6.2-inch AMOLED screen offers a resolution of 2316×904 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz.

Xiaomi, as usual, filled the screens with technology, in addition to betting on more inches. On this specific point, the Chinese brand can win.

Battery and fast charging

Currently, the included battery is one of the main selling points of mobile terminals and, keeping this in mind, Xiaomi has equipped the MIX Fold 2 with a battery of 4500mAh with support for fast charging of 67 watts that, according to the brand, allows the terminal to be fully charged in 40 minutes.

Samsung, on the other hand, was more modest, including a battery of 4400mAh with support for fast charging of 25 watts that charges to 50% in 30 minutes.

Just look at the numbers to see who stands out in this category, confirming in real life the values announced by both brands.

On the rear panel, the Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 includes a primary sensor of 50 megapixels with optical image stabilization, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide angle and an eight-megapixel telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom. It provides the ability to record 8K videos and has a 20-megapixel resolution front camera.

For its part, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 has a main sensor of 50 megapixels also with optical image stabilization, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide angle and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. It allows you to record 4K videos. On the front it has a 10-megapixel camera, capable of recording 4K videos, in addition to having a four-megapixel camera integrated into the screen.

Although the recording of videos in high resolution is less in the Samsung model (4K), both the rear and front cameras offer this option. On the other hand, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 has more sensors and a more advanced optical zoom. For photography enthusiasts, these can be decisive arguments.
