We can’t talk about CyberDog, Xiaomi’s first robot dog, without thinking about Boston Dynamics’ robot Spot. The American company marketed its robotic animal for $74,500 last year, but Xiaomi’s model promises to be much more affordable.

Xiaomi believes this robot is a testament to the company’s “engineering feats” and serves as a testing ground for robotics enthusiasts. would be powered by a version of NVIDIA’s Jetson Xavier NX, dubbed the smallest artificial intelligence supercomputer in the world.

What is CyberDog for?

CyberDog is a very agile robot, as it offers a maximum torque of 32 Nm and can travel up to 3.2 meters per second. He would even be able to do some backwards somersaults. To recognize its environment and move, the robot uses a set of 11 high-precision sensors.

Among them, we find touch sensors, camera systems, ultrasonic sensors or even GPS modules. We would find interactive AI cameras, ultra-wide-angle fisheye cameras, and an Intel RealSense D450 depth module. This allows the robot dog follow objects or their owner, avoid obstacles or even create navigation maps.

Like a real pet, users will be able to give orders with voice commands and set an activation word like “OK CyberDog”. Like Spot, it will also be possible control it using a remote control or smartphone appand add accessories like a LiDAR. The Boston Dynamics robot dog is already so useful that the French Army is using it for combat training.
