Xiaomi confirms a big change in the designation of its smartphones

The last top of the range that Xiaomi presented was the Xiaomi MIX 4. There is a date of its inauguration, many found it curious that the Chinese company omitted the “Mi” designation of its new equipment.

Now, in statements to XDA Developers, Xiaomi confirms that this strategy will be maintained in its next smartphones. In other words, the letters Mi will no longer be part of the designation of the new Chinese team.

Xiaomi says goodbye to “Mi” when naming its smartphones

Since the launch of Xiaomi Mi 1 in 2011, the designation “Mi” has been part of the Chinese technology portfolio. It is already a tradition to find these two letters in the main products launched by the brand.

Ten years after the launch of its first smartphone, the “Mi” will no longer be seen on Xiaomi mobile devices. From now on, we will only have Xiaomi, which means that their next high-end will be called only Xiaomi 11T and 11T Pro. By 2022, we will have Xiaomi 12.

Although nothing has been confirmed in this regard, the decision to abandon the “Mi” is part of a strategy to standardize the naming of Xiaomi products. This is because the brand already sells many products in China without the “Mi”.

As expected, this major change will only have practical effects on the products that Xiaomi will release in the future. All models on the market will continue to officially carry the “Mi” designation.

It remains to be seen what repercussions this decision will have on the official Xiaomi stores. It should be noted that these are known as “Mi Store”, and carry the Mi logo at their entrance.

What is the meaning of “My”?

As we prepare to say a decade of “Mi”, nothing better than remembering the meaning of these two letters. This explanation has already been given by the next Lei Jun, CEO and founder of Xiaomi.

In effect, Mi means two things: “Mobile Internet” and “Mission Impossible.” (Mission Impossible). The Chinese company has always considered itself a seller of mobile Internet products, performing impossible tasks.

These values will certainly not disappear from Xiaomi’s spirit, but she believes that it is time to look to the future. A future in which we will no longer see the “Mi” stamped on all the brand’s products.
