Xiaomi chose a new camera sensor for its mid-range

Xiaomi has always liked to equip its smartphones with multi-megapixel cameras, and now it looks like it’s going to swap its favorite sensor for a new one that keeps that trend.

According to digital chat station, Xiaomi plans to adopt a 50 MP sensor as your preferred sensor. The source doesn’t seem to be sure which sensor it will be, but mentions the Sony IMX766 Sensor.

This makes sense as the IMX766 is starting to be used by other brands. The sensor is part of the main camera of the OnePlus Nord 2, and has also been used in Vivo, Honor and iQOO phones.

This 50 MP 1 / 1.5 ″ sensor will dethrone the 64 MP IMX686 as Xiaomi’s CMOS sensor of choice for many of its smartphones. The new sensor is an improvement because offers a larger sensor and pixel size.

Based on the information, we’re likely to see this 50 MP sensor on Xiaomi mid-range and mid-range phones over the next year. The new Redmi 10 could be the first in a long saga.
