Xiaomi presented its HyperCharge technology at 200 W at the end of May 2021, still in the development and testing phase, but being quickly followed by more manufacturers such as OPPO who also started working on a similar standard.
Now, in 2022, both Asian manufacturers will be ready, or close to being, to bring to market the first viable solutions for the general public, according to the latest information provided by the filter @DCS digital chat station.
Faster charging of Xiaomi and OPPO smartphones
In fact, the source claims that very soon we will see the first 200W fast charging solutions on the market this year. It will be, even more, from the hand of Xiaomi and OPPO that such a feat (and comfort for the user) is carried out over the next few months.
In practice, this means that some of the upcoming high-end smartphones from the aforementioned manufacturers may hit stores with 200W chargers, as well as the necessary technology for the respective phones to support it.
On the other hand, we may have some smartphones that support this 200 W charging standard, but whose USB charger / adapter will have to be purchased separately. Both hypotheses are, for the moment, valid until further notice.
0-100% battery with just 8 minutes of charging
By the way, we remember the technology presented by the Lei Jun brand with the Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro, achieving this standard to fully charge (0-100%) a 4,000 mAh battery in less than 8 minutes.
In fact, 3 minutes of charging would be enough to reach 50% of the load capacity and only 44 seconds to reach 10% according to the data and tests released by the manufacturer.
These were the metrics and technology presented by Xiaomi in May 2021, with no further information regarding the HyperCharge standard since then.
Commercial use could be a reality with the upcoming OPPO and Xiaomi smartphones
Although at the moment there is no confirmation of the commercial application of this standard, it is likely that this will materialize throughout 2022. The most favorable forecast would put OPPO to integrate this standard in its next Find X4 Pro.
On the other hand, Xiaomi is still expected to present the Xiaomi 12 Ultra or MIX 5 Pro during the second half of the year. The mass production of (faster) charging solutions for Xiaomi equipment is also noted there.
Meanwhile, OPPO should normalize the fast charging standard to 125W on its high-end and mid / high-end mobile devices. That is, in the OPPO Find X4 line, as well as in the next OPPO Reno that will hit the market in 2022.
In short, this will be a disruptive technology to reach consumers in the near future. While the exact timing may vary, we take its eventual distribution and standardization across our mobile devices for granted.
