Xiaomi is making waves in the tech world again, teasing a new premium smartphone with an eye-catching design. The buzz on Weibo, a major Chinese social media platform, centers on the upcoming Xiaomi 17 Pro. This new phone features a clever second display that blends right into its rear camera system. It’s a move that certainly sparks interest.
This isn’t Xiaomi’s first dance with a secondary screen. Back in 2021, the company showed off a similar idea on the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra. That earlier phone had a tiny AMOLED panel, less than 1.1 inches, tucked into the top corner of its camera bump. It seems Xiaomi is refining an old trick.
Xiaomi hasn’t given us all the details about this new secondary screen. We don’t know its exact size or full specifications for the 17 Pro yet. However, the teaser images give us a good look at what it can do. Users can customize it to show different things, like a clock face or incoming notifications. It can even work as a live viewfinder for the main camera, which is pretty neat. Xiaomi is calling this cool new feature the ‘Magic Back Screen’.

Beyond its fancy display, the Xiaomi 17 series is set to pack some serious power. Reports suggest all three models – the standard Xiaomi 17, the 17 Pro, and the 17 Pro Max – will use Qualcomm’s next-generation flagship chip. This is likely the Snapdragon 8 Elite 5, or 8 Elite Gen 5. This chip is expected to run at speeds up to 4.6 GHz. It recently hit an incredible 4.2 to 4.4 million points on the AnTuTu benchmark, which is a new record.
The Xiaomi 17 Pro reportedly sports a 6.3-inch main AMOLED display. This screen offers 1.5K resolution and a flexible refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz. Keeping it running is a large 6,300 mAh battery. This battery supports extremely fast charging at 100 W, and can also charge wirelessly at 50 W.

For those who want even more, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max steps up the game. It features a larger 6.8-inch main display with 2K resolution. This screen covers an impressive 94% of the phone’s front surface. It also boasts a massive 7,500 mAh battery, perfect for heavy users.
Xiaomi plans to launch all three models of the Xiaomi 17 series on September 26, 2025. This makes them some of the first flagships to use the powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite 5 chipset. Other major players will follow soon after. Flagship series like the Honor Magic 8, OnePlus 15, iQOO 15, and the high-end realme GT 8 Pro are all expected to launch in China in October 2025. It’s shaping up to be an exciting end to the year for new mobile tech.
