WPL: Title Sponsor Rights will now be auctioned, tender issued by BCCI; that’s the whole process

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has now called for tenders to sell title sponsor rights after auctioning off the Women’s Premier League (WPL) teams and media rights. The board will auction the title sponsor rights for the first five seasons, that is, from 2023 to 2027. We inform that the first season of the WPL will be played in March this year.

Companies wishing to purchase title sponsor rights must purchase a Request for Proposal (RFP) document. In it, there will be information about all the conditions, rules and regulations, eligibility criteria, submission process related to the title sponsorship auction. Its cost is Rs 1 lakh on which GST will also be applied. It will be non-refundable. The last date to purchase this document is February 9, 2022. After purchasing the document, companies must send the payment details to [email protected].

Viacom 18, a broadcasting company affiliated with the Reliance Group, has purchased the broadcast rights for the first 5 years (2023-27) of WPL. These include both television and digital rights. The company will give Rs 951 crore to BCCI for this.

WPL teams were recently auctioned off. 5 teams will play in the first season. In such a situation, there was competition between 17 companies to buy these 5 franchises. Here IPL’s Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals got one team each. The other two teams were bought by Adani Sportsline Pvt Ltd and Capri Global Holding Pvt Ltd. These 5 teams were sold for a total of Rs 4670 crore.

The auction of players from the inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League could take place in the second week of February. According to press reports, it is almost decided to hold this auction at a hotel in New Delhi on February 10 and 11. In this auction, 5 franchises will choose their respective templates.
