Cubios, creator of the portable game cube wowcube, raised $4.5 million in the company’s latest round of financing.
WowCube is like a Rubik’s cube with screens that can be rotated and shaken. It’s a simple device, and it was designed five years ago by a boy who was 13 years old and was later turned into a company by his father.
The young teenager asked his father if this could be done. a Rubik’s cube with video game screens, so his father, Ilya Osipov, founded Cubios to make that happen.
Ilya Osipov said in an interview that he thought about this for a few days and then called a patent attorney to investigate such inventions. They couldn’t find anything and went on to prototyping at the end of 2016. They launched the company in April 2017. In 2018, Ilya Osipov showed the prototypes at events and noticed a great interest in the product. An investor put money into the company.
“It’s not difficult from a technological point of view, but our challenge was to build everything from scratch, layer by layer”, Explain. “It’s a very unusual device, with 24 screens and eight microprocessors.”
The WowCube entertainment system is shaped like a cube made up of eight connected modules.
24 high resolution screens cover the cube, making all 6 sides part of the game. The user controls the cube by rotating, tilting, tapping and shaking each side, as if it were a Rubik’s cube.
Cubios is working on more than 30 different games– Arcade games, puzzles, logic and strategy games, gamified educational apps and more for players of all ages.
WowCube will come with several games, such as Pipes, Scrabble, Space, Puzzle and Maze. Up to 24 games can be loaded via the WowCube Store mobile app and via Bluetooth connectivity. Zeptolab, creators of the successful Cut The Rope mobile game, is one of the companies developing a game for it.
