World No. 3 Zverev Beats Tabilo, Moves to US Open Second Round

Alexander Zverev

Alexander Zverev, the world’s number three player, easily moved into the US Open second round. He overcame Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo in straight sets. This win marked a good start for the German at the season’s final big tournament.

The match took place late Tuesday night in Flushing Meadows, New York. Zverev, 28 years old, showed great form from the start. He quickly broke the serve of Tabilo, ranked 122nd by the ATP.

Zverev showed more winning shots and made fewer mistakes than his opponent. Tabilo, also 28, struggled to keep up with the German. Zverev took firm control and easily closed out the first set, 6-2.

The second set was a completely different story, much tighter. Both players fought hard, pushing the game to a tie-break. Zverev, however, managed to pull ahead, winning the tie-break 7-4, securing the set 7-6.

The third set stayed evenly matched for most of the play. Tabilo hung in there, keeping things balanced until the very end. But Zverev finally broke his serve in the last game. This allowed the German to close out the match 6-4, finishing a contest that lasted over two hours.

Zverev’s next opponent in the second round is Jacob Fearnley from Great Britain. Fearnley currently holds the 60th spot in the world rankings. He earned his spot by beating Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut, ranked 47th. That tough match on Tuesday stretched to four sets, with scores of 5-7, 2-6, 7-5, and 4-6.

Many see Zverev as a strong contender to reach the final stages of the tournament. However, most eyes are on other top players. Italy’s Jannik Sinner and Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz are widely considered the main favorites. These two have been dominating the world of tennis lately.

This year marks the 139th edition of the US Open. The entire tournament will run until September 8th.
