World No. 127 Jaime Faria Qualifies for Brest Main Draw After Comeback Win

Portuguese tennis player Jaime Faria navigated a late entry and a challenging qualification round to secure a spot in the main draw of the ATP Challenger event in Brest, France.

Faria, ranked 127th globally, defeated Lithuania’s Edas Butvilas, ranked 275th, in the final qualification match. The victory came in a three-set comeback, with scores of 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.

His success means he advanced past the qualifying stages despite a late registration for the tournament.

Other Portuguese players experienced mixed results on the global circuit.

Henrique Rocha, ranked 161st, lost in the first round of the main draw at the Suzhou Challenger in China. He was defeated by Croatia’s Duje Ajdukovic, ranked 372nd, in a close three-set match, 6-7(1), 7-6(6), 6-4.

His brother, Francisco Rocha, ranked 745th, fell in the second round of qualifying at a tournament in Sioux Falls, United States. He lost to France’s Antoine Ghibaudo, ranked 398th, with scores of 6-3, 6-2.

On the women’s tour, sisters Francisca Jorge and Matilde Jorge are scheduled to compete in the ITF W75 tournament in Poitiers, France, starting Tuesday.

Francisca Jorge, ranked 236th, recently reclaimed the national number one position from her younger sister, Matilde, who is ranked 239th. Both players have seen recent improvements in their world rankings.
