Young Indian player R Vaishali is second after nine rounds in the women’s section of the World Blitz Chess Tournament. While Koneru Humpy is in third place overall. Grandmaster R Praggnanandha’s sister, Vaishali, defeated Ukrainian Maria M and Russian Valentina Gunina on the first day of the Blitz Championship. After nine rounds, Bibisara Asayubaeva from Kazakhstan is on top with eight points. Now Vaishali will face Bibisara alone.

India’s best player Hampi and Russia’s Alexandra Kosteniuk are in third place. Humpy defeated Alexandra Goryashkina in the ninth round and will now face Kosteniuk. In the fast category, Hampi was sixth with 7.5 points. Vantika Agarwal of India is ranked 32nd and Padmini Raut 57th. In the open category, defending champion Magnus Kalerson suffered a defeat on the first day. He is one point and a half behind Levon Aronian, the top ranked. The Grand Master of India, Arjun Arigayasi, is ranked 12th, while P Harikrishna is ranked 48th.
