Woman tried to suffocate her husband because he received a letter from her ex 60 years ago

A Florida woman has been accused of trying to suffocate her husband with a pillow after the man received a letter from an ex he dated 60 years ago, authorities said.

That person is Bertha Yalter, 71, who has been charged with attempted murder for the alleged attack that occurred at her home in Miami-Dade County.

The woman’s lawyers told The Post that her husband, who is in his 50s, wants her released from prison.

The whole conflict began when the husband received a message from an ex-girlfriend in Turkey from 60 years ago and responded to it, the woman’s lawyer, Jeffrey Weiner, said in an interview. According to authorities, the message that sparked the entire argument came on a postcard.

The attacked husband was found with several bruises

Investigators said they found the alleged victim in an “extremely fragile” condition with “multiple severe bruises and open cuts.” As well as open bite marks,” he reported. WPLG.

Not to mention, Yalter also apparently tried to suffocate his partner with a pillow, according to the arrest report cited by the station.

“They had an argument that got out of hand, but there was absolutely no reason to charge them with attempted second-degree murder,” said Weiner, who called the situation “deplorable” and “disgusting.”

A prosecutor spoke of the seriousness of the matter

A prosecutor emphasized the seriousness of the matter and argued that the intention to suffocate him with the pillow amounted to attempted murder. Yalter is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

One of the defense’s arguments is that the altercation between the two should not be considered attempted second-degree murder, but rather a domestic dispute that got out of control.
