WKRP in Cincinnati Star Loni Anderson Dies at 79 Before 80th Birthday

Hollywood is mourning the loss of a television icon. Loni Anderson, the actress best known for her unforgettable role in the hit comedy "WKRP in Cincinnati," passed away at 79. Her death came just one day shy of her 80th birthday, which would have been August 5th. She had been battling a long illness.

Anderson made a huge splash as Jennifer Marlowe, the sharp and glamorous receptionist at a struggling radio station on "WKRP in Cincinnati." The show aired from 1978 to 1982. Her character was smart and captivating, expertly handling unwanted calls for her boss, Mr. Carlson. Jennifer also used her wits to keep the station running smoothly. She shared the screen with a talented cast including Gary Sandy, Tim Reid, Howard Hesseman, Frank Bonner, and Jan Smithers.

Her remarkable portrayal earned her two Emmy Award nominations and three Golden Globe nominations. It cemented her place as a beloved figure in 1980s pop culture. "We are very sad to announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother," her family shared in a statement.

Beyond the laughter, Anderson faced personal health battles. Her longtime publicist, Cheryl J. Kagan, confirmed she had been ill for a considerable time. Kagan also shared that Anderson was a strong advocate for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) awareness. This cause was close to her heart because she had cared for her own parents, who suffered from the condition. She actively spoke out about the disease.

Anderson’s career wasn’t limited to television. She also appeared in the 1983 comedy film Stroker Ace, where she co-starred with actor Burt Reynolds. The two later married but divorced in 1994.

Loni Anderson leaves behind a loving family. This includes her husband, Bob Flick, and her daughter, Deidra, along with son-in-law Charlie Hoffman. She is also survived by her son, Quinton Anderson Reynolds, and grandchildren, McKenzie and Megan Hoffman. Her extended family includes step-son Adam Flick, his wife Helen, and step-grandchildren Felix and Maximilian.
