With Puyol, Scotiabank launches community soccer platform

With the aim of contributing to a better society and renewing its commitment to sport by betting on the transformative power of football, Scotiabank Dominican Republic launched the Scotiabank Fútbol Club platform, which has been successfully implemented in Latin American and Caribbean countries where the Bank has a presence.

With it, it seeks to promote in the lives of boys, girls and young people essential values such as respect, teamwork, integrity and determination, while developing other skills in an integral way.

“The platform that we are launching today seeks to generate spaces for inclusion by inviting all children and young people to the field. Soccer is a very complete sport, as it allows for moments of reflection and definition of strategies, which is undoubtedly very beneficial for the lives of those who practice it,” said Gonzalo Gil, executive president of Scotiabank Dominican Republic.

The activity was attended by Carles Puyol, renowned ex-soccer player and ex-captain of FC Barcelona; and now ambassador of the platform, who indicated “I see sport as an educational instrument that provides many contributions that go beyond moving a ball. Today more than ever, I am proud to collaborate with Scotiabank, to generate a positive impact in Dominican society”.

The Scotiabank Fútbol Club platform is made up of five strategic programs: Children’s National Championships, Soccer Fields, Scotiabank Red Balls, FútbolNet and Alliance with community programs.

Scotiabank Children’s National Championship

This is one of the largest youth tournaments in the Dominican Republic and an ideal space to generate links between the youngest and the entire community.

“On September 17, we kicked off the first Scotiabank Children’s National Championship in the U-11 mixed category, with the participation of teams from public and private schools, as well as community teams. The championship will be held in 4 cities: Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal, Santiago and the grand finale in Punta Cana, on October 8 and 9. In total, 48 mixed teams from the country (boys and girls) participate, totaling 480 players,” said Danilo De La Pava, director of the Scotiabank Fútbol Club Platform.
