With home runs by Ohtani and Trout, Anaheim triumphs

Shohei Ohtani hit a deep home run to lead off the game and Mike Trout added another solo homer among his three hits and two RBIs in the Los Angeles Angels’ 4-1 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Sunday.

Left-hander Patrick Sandoval (3-1) struck out seven and pitched four-hit ball into the eighth inning for the Angels, who won the last two games of the weekend series after a four-game losing streak.

Ohtani hit his ninth homer on Cole Irvin’s second pitch, and Trout added an RBI single in the second and his 12th homer in the seventh inning. Trout, who also doubled in the first inning, struck out in the eighth to drop a triple short of the cycle for the second time in six days.

Just 12 days after Angels rookie Reid Detmers pitched a no-hitter in the Big A, Sandoval took a no-hitter to fifth and two-hit ball to eighth.

For the Angels, the Venezuelan Luis Rengifo 2-1.

For the Athletics, the Dominicans Cristian Pache 3-1 with RBI, and Luis Barrera 2-0. The Venezuelan Elvis Andrus 3-0. Panamanian Christian Bethancourt 4-0.
