With home runs by Adames and Taylor, Brewers beat St. Louis

Tyrone Taylor hit a three-run homer, Willy Adames added a solo homer and the Milwaukee Brewers beat their division opponents the St. Louis Cardinals 6-4 Thursday, with whom they split honors in the four-game series.

Taylor’s shot across left field, off a 2-1 sinker from Dakota Hudson (5-4) in the fourth, gave the Brewers a 4-2 lead and snapped a 46-inning streak. and a third without allowing a home run by the right of San Luis.

Adames found another pitch from Hudson and disappeared behind the fence in the fifth to make it 5-3.

The Brewers, who have won five of seven games, again caught up with the Cardinals for first place in the AL Central. St. Louis has lost five of its last eight games.

Jason Alexander (2-0) gave up four runs and six hits. He reached the sixth inning on an afternoon when he was making his fifth start as part of an injury-decimated rotation.

Josh Hader navigated the ninth inning smoothly for his 21st save in 22 chances.

For the Cardinals, Venezuelan Juan Yépez 3-0 with an RBI. Panamanian Iván Herrera 2-0. The Dominican Albert Pujols 1-0.

For the Brewers, Dominican Adames 4-1 with a run scored and an RBI. Mexican Luis Urías 2-0 with a run scored. Puerto Rican Víctor Caratini 2-1 with a run scored.
